Your Greatest Blessing is Beyond Your Greatest Fear
Sometimes, when you have fear you must lean in and press into the pain, rather than take a step back. You must DO IT AFRAID.
Let me tell you a personal story that will perhaps resonate with you on this point. It comes from the scariest day of my life. That was the day I would learn that my daughter Mikayla had a rare brain malformation, and would have some considerable special needs. The doctors gave us the grave news, and all the different possible outcomes. Then they asked my wife and me if we would like to keep the child, and walked out of the room to give us time to think. We were in total shock. I felt like I was in one of those war movies, where the bomb goes off and all you hear is that ringing in your ears. I was terrified.
My wife and I were able to have some clarity in that moment though, and say “no matter what we were going to give this child its best chance at life.” We brought the doctors back in and said we are keeping Mikayla. We knew that this choice we were making would be extremely difficult, and would re-shape our lives forever. I can honestly tell you that Mikayla (and all my 3 daughters) are the best thing that ever happened to me. They are our greatest blessings. If we had listened to our fear, then we would have missed out.
So what is it that you long to do, but the voices of fear are keeping you from? What do you have to share, but fear has held you back? Our family is a living testament that your greatest blessing is just beyond your greatest fear. So decide on what you want to pursue, and then find the courage to do it afraid.
