Are You Drowning in Change?

Coaching can keep you from drowning in change.

Coaching is about focused attention on a change you want to make in your life. Too often we feel that to make changes we have to make giant leaps. We jump in the pool all at once and learn to swim. This makes you feel overwhelmed and you start drowning because you haven’t learned to swim!

Coaching is more like dropping your head under water for 10 seconds to the point you feel like you are drowning and then popping back up for air. It is more controlled. You then unpack the experience and what you learned with and talk about ways that you can keep become more accustomed to the water. Over time with more and more insight and action you learn how to swim. You have made the change that you seek gradually and without jumping in and flailing about. It is intentional, purposeful, and directed change. The coach is there to partner with you, ask powerful questions, and hold you accountable to the changes you want to make.

It is a simple yet very effective method. The International Coaching Federation has a great article on the benefits of coaching with statistics and insights. CLICK HERE to view the article.
